I admit, although I hate fondant, I find it useful when creating themed kids cakes. Here, I kind of got the best of both worlds when designing the rocket on a foil lined cake board. all I had to do was lift it off to serve the cake. no fondant eating necessary! it may look a little rough around the edges, life with 2 boys leaves a little less time for fine tuning......which also is the reason my posts on this blog has become more infrequent. I hope that it isn't too long before I can get back into the swing of things. I do miss it.

LoveBirds.
My biggest cake of the year was this one.
The venue was a really cool space that once housed the original Rainier Brewery boiler room. an old building with the tallest ceilings, floor to ceiling windows and the best light. In an area of town that has recently had a rebirth of cool, Georgetown, once was only known for the Boeing field and the industrial section of Seattle.
The cakes: Lemon on top, Tiramisu in the middle and the beloved Coconut on the bottom.
The Tiramisu was a new one for me. I used alternate layers of vanilla and chocolate cakes, each doused with an espresso and Kahlua soak. The filling was a lightly sweetened Mascarpone and Cream. I wanted to really saturate the layers, but I also wanted to keep the cake in cake form and not a mushy mess. so, I hope it was a success.

Happy 2nd Birthday Peps Peeps!
Today, we had a party to celebrate all the cancer and leo birthdays. I attempted the fondant thing once again. Its kind of fun, but I still grapple with the whole weepy humidity issue. They held pretty good, but not perfectly. ah, its all a learning curve.

Tiramisu cake, take 1.
I am doing a sample Tiramisu cake for a wedding. never made this before, but I was pretty pleased with the result! just took a basic cake, soaked it with good coffee and some simple syrup, and filled it with lightly sweetened mascarpone and whipped creme. no booze in this one, but per the brides request, I just might be adding some to the real deal. The frosting is a basic cream cheese frosting with a touch of mascarpone.

Yo!!
Up next, a yo gabba gabba cake for Z's 2nd birthday! I am growing more accepting of rolled fondant, especially since YGG figurines are going for $100 over what they are worth!
